Job Description:West Island School is seeking a Teacher of Individual Needs from August 2024 to October 2024 to join a highly successful team. The position will be a full-time temporary position as a Maternity Cover.The successful candidate will join a well respected faculty of five specialist Individual Needs teachers and 9 educational assistants. You will be using your knowledge and experience of diverse learning needs to teach students between the ages of 11-18. Teachers who have experience in either primary or secondary, as well as mainstream English and specialist settings are welcome to apply.Our school has a fully inclusive philosophy and our only admission criteria is that children can access our English medium education. We therefore benefit from the strength of diverse learner variability and our teachers provide differentiated learning approaches and materials as part of mainstream mixed ability classes. Some students have a more personalised curriculum and experience additional classes with specific and targeted content to support their progress. A few students are part of our Learning Centre as they have highly specific needs, such as Autism, which require further small group work and personalised support.Our Individual Needs team are diverse themselves and have a range of experience and skills which enable them to skilfully support each other and the wider teaching team. Please mention all subjects you are qualified to teach in your application as well as any specific experience or expertise that you have in attending to learner variability. A commitment to holistic education is a must. Knowledge and experience of teaching English language up to IGCSE would be an advantage.All teachers at West Island School are tutors to a group of approximately 15 students within a particular year group and you should be able to demonstrate a commitment to the holistic development of young people through pastoral work.   • Bachelor Degree in Education, or Bachelor Degree in the subject with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of teaching experience within a recognized educational organisation is preferred
  • Relevant recent teaching experience of our programmes (or their equivalents)
  • Commitment to inclusion
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills in English
  • Evidence of leading or contributing to an extra-curricular programme of events
  • Pro-active, adaptable and passionate team player able to share responsibility for the development of curriculum and pedagogy
