In this role, you will:
  • Degree holder in Journalism or related discipline with a minimum 5 years of digital editing experience in English
  • Solid news judgement
  • Ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks
  • Knowledge of China and wider Asia news an advantage, as well as knowledge of global affairs
  • Be a team player and able to work well with different parties under deadline pressure
  • Possess a versatile mind and excellent communication skills
  • Understand best practices for SEO
  • Experience with and understanding of best practices for Facebook, X, Instagram and other social media
  • Experience using Google Analytics and similar tools
  • Excellent written and spoken English
Skills and Experience that will lead to success:
  • Curate the South China Morning Post’s homepages across three key markets - International, Asia and Hong Kong
  • Rewrite headlines quickly, accurately and with flair. Adhere to SCMP style
  • Send breaking news, exclusive alerts and newsletters to readers
  • Write and send news alerts to readers for all other desks
  • Post on various social media platforms such as Facebook, X and Instagram, including during breaking news events
  • Manage digital news content flow with well-honed instincts for audience appetites
  • Produce Lunar newsletter for SCMP readers, focusing on news about women and gender in Asia
  • Use data and analytics to make informed content decisions
  • Monitor content quality, and edit as required
  • Schedule and target content to key markets via the SCMP digital product suite
  • Identify and implement new content initiatives and platforms
  • Use video, interactive and podcast content to enhance content packages
  • Assist in the production of the online version of SCMP's Leaders and My Take, as well as the daily cartoon from the paper
Working Time:
  • Work Location: Remote
  • Hours: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM Hong Kong Time, Monday to Friday
