The appointee will participate in research projects related to the topics of (1) spatio-temporal
distributions of microplastics (and/or nanoplastics), and the adsorbed pollutants in the marine
environment and (2) the related biological toxicity of the identified microplastics, and the adsorbed
pollutants in the marine environment. The major duties include conducting literature review,
collecting samples from the marine environment and water/sewage treatment works, developing the
cultivation of environmentally beneficial microorganisms and human cells, developing protocols for
microbial community analysis, biological toxicity studies, in vivo and in vitro experiments, preparing
standard operating procedures, and performing data analysis. They will also be responsible for
drafting reports, papers, and proposals for submission, carrying out general administrative duties; and
performing any other duties as assigned. The appointment will be for a period of around 12 months,
with the possibility of renewal subject to mutual agreement.Applicants should have a Bachelor's degree, preferably a Master's Degree, in Biotechnology,
Environmental Health, Ecotoxicology, Environmental Science, or related disciplines. Relevant post-
qualification full-time research experience in (1) identification and characterisation of microplastics
and nanoplastics in environmental samples and (2) cultivation of microorganisms and human cell is
preferred. Preference will be also given to applicants with good knowledge of biological toxicity
studies and ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision. They should also be a
good team player, attentive to details, highly self-motivated, and able to work under pressure.
