The Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited (“HKSI”) is the Government’s delivery agent to provide the high performance training system for eligible sports. The HKSI’s mission is to provide an environment in which sports talent can be identified, nurtured and developed to pursue excellence in the international sporting arena benchmarked at Major Games results. We are now inviting suitable candidates for the following vacancy:The JobReporting to the Sport Engineer of the Sport Biomechanics and Technology Center, the Sport Engineering Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
  • To assist the design and prototyping of sports specific monitoring, training and feedback systems.
  • To provide equipment experimental setup, verification, and test analysis.
  • To provide training monitoring with qualitative and/or quantitative real-time feedback to elite athletes.
  • To process and analyze data that is generated from sports specific systems.
  • To assist departmental daily operation, data collection and interpretation, report writing and provide feedback to coaches and relevant parties.
  • To provide both local and overseas on-field support to elite sport teams; and
  • To conduct/assist research projects.
  • To perform any other appropriate duties as assigned by supervisor.
The Requirements
  • Degree holder in Mechanical Engineering / Electronics Engineering / Information Technology /Computing / Sport Science or relevant discipline;
  • A minimum of two years relevant working experience;
  • ECAD/MCAD is required (e.g. AutoCAD, Solidworks, Fusion 360, Altium or equivalent).
  • Knowledge in data acquisition system (e.g. National Instrument, Pico, or equivalent), data analysis skills with programming (e.g. C++, Matlab, MS Visual Basic Application, or equivalent) is required.
  • Experience in one of the following areas 1. electro-mechanical integration (e.g. Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.), 2. multi-media technology (e.g. VR, MR), 3. Cloud application, 4. Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning application will be an advantage.
  • Able to work irregular hours and perform under pressure.
  • Highly motivated person with good interpersonal and planning skills.
  • Good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese. Ability to speak Putonghua; and
  • Awareness/knowledge of Child Protection in sport and equal opportunity issues in the context of Hong Kong are an added advantage.
