  • Overseeing operations of the Library Collection Development and Management Division, including planning, managing, and coordinating functions related to acquisitions, subscriptions, contract and price negotiations, cataloguing and classification, usage analysis, as well as selection and deselection of materials for the library collection;
  • Assisting in the planning, monitoring, and management of the library materials budget;
  • Contributing to the formulation, implementation, and review of policies and procedures related to collection development and management to ensure efficiency and effectiveness;
  • Coordinating the Library Subject Teams for academic liaison and collection development activities;
  • Fostering a positive work culture that promotes collaboration, synergy and continuous improvement;
  • Representing the Library on internal and external committees; and
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the University Librarian or his/her nominee(s).
CandidatesCandidates should possess the following qualifications, experience and competence:
  • A recognized university degree and a professional library qualification (e.g. AALIA, ALA, MCLIP, MLIS or equivalent);
  • Substantial years of relevant experience in academic libraries;
  • Demonstrated broad knowledge of traditional and electronic library resources, services and technologies;
  • Strong knowledge of, and experience with, integrated library systems, discovery services, OpenURL link resolvers, and professional tools for collection development and management;
  • Proven administrative ability and excellent leadership skills;
  • Proven ability to work effectively with faculty and students to enhance library resources and services that support research, teaching and learning;
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive commitment to responding to rapidly changing needs; and
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both English and Chinese.
