- Product – Drafting, structuring and reviewing insurance and reinsurance policies, endorsements and product marketing documentations on commercial lines (financial lines, casualty, property, marine, trade credit, surety and SME) and consumer lines (A&H and personal lines) insurance business. Providing contractual interpretation advice on all matters across all product lines.
- Distribution – Drafting broker and agency related agreements. Structuring and advising on direct-to-customer digital distribution channels and drafting necessary agreements for program administration; reviewing all marketing materials; advising on legal issues arising from agency force and insurance broker distribution channels and on multinational insurance matters.
- Regulatory – Serving as a contact with Hong Kong and Macau regulators and industry associations. Responsible for regulatory applications on outsourcing, capital changes, change of controllers/key persons in control functions, change of directors and CEOs. Responsible for reviewing and approving all responses for customer complaints to the regulator. Responding to consultations on new legislation and guidelines and dealing with ad-hoc queries. Advising the business on regulatory issues and exposures and updating the business on regulatory developments. Dealing with regulatory investigations and inspections.
- Corporate Governance and Company Secretarial –Serve as company secretary for AIG companies in Hong Kong
- Employment – Providing advice on employment issues and dealing with dispute resolution mechanisms involving external regulators such as the Equal Opportunities Commission.
- General – Advising and giving opinions on all in-house legal, regulatory and compliance matters including matters relating to insurance, data privacy, direct marketing, litigation, disputes, competition law, customer servicing and intermediary related legal issues, complaints and bankruptcy issues; performing legal research.
- L.L.B or equivalent either in Hong Kong or from a common law jurisdiction. Admitted to practice law in Hong Kong
- At least 10 years of post-qualification experience as a solicitor from leading law firms or counsel from in-house legal positions
- Must have a deep understanding of Hong Kong insurance law, codes and guidelines, and have worked in the insurance sector or private practice specializing in insurance law.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English. Candidates who is fluent in Cantonese and can speak and write Chinese will have an advantage.
- Must be able to operate autonomously with limited direct supervision.
- This role requires someone with strong business sense, sound judgment, first-class legal analytical skills, leadership talent, the ability to work under pressure, a problem-solving approach and an instinctive desire to help colleagues accomplish their goals, even if this means stepping outside their formal remit to assist.
- The ability to work efficiently and cooperatively with business colleagues to deliver business objectives is important.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and have good management, communication and interpersonal skills.
