HONG KONG BAPTIST UNIVERSITYFACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCESDEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGYSenior Research Assistant/Research Assistant (23240527)The Department is going to recruit research staff for a project focused on textual analysis and sentiment analysis of online data using machine learning methods.Responsibilities:
  • Independently fetch online data from various sources, primarily blogs and travelogues, and setting up databases;
  • Clean and preprocess the collected data to ensure its quality and usability for analysis;
  • Conduct data analysis using a range of machine learning models; and
  • Collaborate with the research team to interpret and visualise the results of the data analysis.
Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, Engineering, or a related field to computational social science;
  • Proficiency in fetching online data and setting up databases, particularly with experience in NoSQL and MongoDB;
  • Strong familiarity with Natural Language Processing techniques and various machine learning models related to topic classification and sentiment analysis. Experience in implementing and applying these models is highly desirable;
  • Excellent skills in visualising statistics. Proficiency in data visualisation tools such as Tableau or Matplotlib is a plus;
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and high self-motivation; and
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey findings and collaborate with the research team.
