Professionals within the Legal and Compliance Division of the Firm ('LCD') provide a wide range of services to our business units. They might help to structure a complex and sensitive cross-border transaction; advise on a new product introduction; develop a training program or defuse an investor dispute. They preserve the Firm's invaluable reputation for integrity and protect the Firm from sanctions with policies and procedures that meet regulatory requirements around the world. They also strive to maintain cooperative relationships with governmental policy makers and the regulatory and self-regulatory agencies that govern the Firm's businesses.Background on the Position
We are looking to hire a lawyer at Vice President level based in Hong Kong. Reporting directly to the Head of Sales and Trading Legal for Asia Pacific, we are looking for candidates with enthusiasm and strong initiative, who can manage a diverse and complex workload meeting tight deadlines with responsibility for, amongst other things, the following:Providing legal, regulatory and transactional advice (including documentation/drafting advice) on fixed income business and transactions for the Firm.Advising the Fixed Income Division of the Firm personnel on legal and regulatory changes, industry initiatives and policy developments.Engaging with colleagues in other regions (EMEA and Americas) to ensure consistent practices across the Firm.Working with other product coverage lawyers on cross product transactions and issues and country coverage lawyers in APAC, including Mainland China, Singapore, India, Korea and Australia.Managing Outside CounselAdvising on cross border regulatory issuesResponding to regulatory inquiries and initiativesResolving issues relating to suitability of transactions, franchise protection and sound management of conflicts of interestsWorking closely with colleagues in Compliance and other infrastructure groups across the FirmParticipating in industry working groups QualificationsA lawyer with general finance training from a reputable international law firm or in-house counsel at a leading financial institution4+ years post qualification experienceProduct experience (structured finance, derivatives, spot transactions and loans)First rate legal drafting and negotiation skillsExcellent oral and written communication skills (English)Ability to speak, read and write Chinese and specifically Mandarin will be highly desirableProactive, willing to learn, organized, detail orientated, with an ability to manage a diverse and complex workload and work to tight deadlinesA team player who works collaboratively and productively with colleagues across LCD and who will continue to foster the excellent culture and spirit within the DivisionWHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM MORGAN STANLEY:We are committed to maintaining the first-class service and high standard of excellence that have defined Morgan Stanley for over 89 years.
