Laboratory of Data Discovery for Health (D24H), a start-up company incorporated by The University of Hong Kong (HKU) that is led by senior faculty members of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine at HKU. The D24H sets to play pivotal role in gathering and curating massive, unique data resources and to develop new, deep, frontier analytics in protecting global public health and improving individual healthcare through precision medicine.Applications are invited for appointment as Intern or Research Assistant in AI/Digital Health, to commence as soon as possible, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.The appointee will join the Laboratory of Data Discovery for Health (D24H), a start-up company incorporated by The University of Hong Kong (HKU) that is led by senior faculty members of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine at HKU. The D24H sets to play pivotal role in gathering and curating massive, unique data resources and to develop new, deep, frontier analytics in protecting global public health and improving individual healthcare through precision medicine. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, promoting health and wellness through digital platform.About the Project:To develop digital health tools with the aim to:
  • Shorten the distance between people and improve the health of users;
  • Enable users to express feelings and convey messages in an intuitive and efficient manner with text and image prompts;
  • Semi-automatically analyse the latest research outcome and explore the insights and novel thoughts; and
  • Provide health recommendations with appealing images and text corresponding to health information database.
Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the development of health-related online platform;
  • Contribute to survey activities, assisting in health data collection, analysis, and interpretation;
  • Conduct systematic searches and comprehensive literature reviews, code and analyse both qualitative and quantitative data for meaningful insights, and present feedback based on research findings.
Requirements:
  • Students or graduates from Biomedical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Biostatistics, Health Science, Medicine or related discipline;
  • Proven experience in data manipulation libraries such as Pandas and SciPy;
  • Experience in at least one of the following:
  • Systematic review or meta-analysis;
  • Laboratory work or medical data collection;
  • Data analysis and processing with R/Python/MATLAB;
  • Health activities and diet recommendation;
  • Fine-tuning and prompt engineering for Large Language Models;
  • Frontend development, including JavaScript, and understanding of frameworks like React or Vue; or
  • Designing or developing websites, mobile applications, or WeChat Xiaochengxu.
  • Responsible and self-initiated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Outstanding organisational skills and demonstrated ability to complete tasks in a precise and detailed manner;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with the team and collaborators; and
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English is a must. Proficiency in Chinese would be a definite plus.
